After making a few contours and realizing these one size wonders are going to be too big for Cj for a while I decided to venture into making newborn fitteds. Holy crap it worked! To make the newborn fitted diapers I am using Shar’s Newborn fitted pattern, available here. This pattern is wonderful! There are some great step-by-step instructions included for those of you who wanted a detailed how-to. The instructions also include an optional sew in soaker, but the type of soaker really depends on what you like. I found that I rather just sew them in. After a few test runs the drying time of a fitted diaper with a sewn in soaker versus a fold out or lay in soaker did not vary that much for me.
I have been using flannel receiving blankets for diaper fabric and microfiber terry towels for the soaker. Depending on the size of the blanket I can usually get one diaper and two washcloths out of one receiving blanket.
Shar’s newborn fitted diaper pattern does include a 1/2 cm seam allowance which as been drawn on the left pattern with elastic markings.
